I think you’re way early calling Hill a journeyman in the making, just like fawning over Ish Smith was way early. Smith looks to be a very handy 3rd PG, one who might do more in certain situations – he is a rookie, too. That should be remembered.

Patterson is swimming right now. He’s overwhelmed, and as a cerebral guy, he’s doubting himself. This will pass, maybe at RGV, but it will.

In Hickson v Hill you had two PF playing out of position. Hickson got the better of it, but I honestly think the Rockets were totally mentally checked out of this one. That it managed to be close shocked me more than anything else.

I usually find myself agreeing with you, but I can’t on this game. I just don’t think you can make a meal of any sort out of this performance. The Rockets were mentally on the plane to China, only the guys playing for their jobs didn’t look completely checked out.

These kinds of things aren’t supposed to matter, but they do, especially in preseason. There was no real W on the line, the team was about to go spend 20+ hours on a plane, 3 of 5 starters were wearing suits and Adelman even stopped running most of the 2nd unit guys out there. He didn’t even coach the timeouts at the end.

The Rockets sent out the “D” team, and it lost. Ho hum.

Hickson is going to be a revelation this season, and Manny Harris looks to be a guy teams are going to regret not drafting. Out of boredom I watch this Cleveland team beat Dallas on the second night of a back to back for them (like the Rockets last night). I think the Cavs at least come close to taking the last playoff berth in the east. And wouldn’t that be an interesting series?

Alot of hmmms for the Rockets to ponder on the weekend games.
When the Rockets can run they can be devastating. But the 1/2 court offense needs a bit of work.
The Courtney Lee as PG experiment is a definite work in progress. W/Lee as PG the Rockets tried to run their offense thru bigs at the hi-post and it’s pretty obvious Patterson isn’t ready. Hayes can,but his height causes problems as quick doubles from guards results in trouble for the Rockets. In Sunday’s game the offense staggered to a halt w/Lee as the PG. Interesting to see what will happen when Miller returns.
Ish Smith was just abused by Sessions’ quick cuts. Smith looks like he can run an NBA offense,but defense is going to be problematic. Those who said Smith made Lowry(or Brooks)expendable,not so fast. He has a ways to go.
New obsessive worry-Paterson played very small. No weak-side help,no shot-blocking,floating on O,not able to fight for rebounds much less get rebounds that weren’t coming directly to him. Got a long way to go.
Hill is looking more and more like a solid journeyman big. Nice player who will stay in a rotation as borderline starter on a bad team,serviceable reserve on a good team. Not going to hurt a team,but not really going to make a consistent impact. Looks like he’ll be better on offense that I thought and a little worse on defense.

The problem w/Hickson having a great game is that he’s a PF-and he played C for the Cavs.(And how did Bud end up guarding him so often on the perimeter?) When a PF masquerading as a C can have a great game against Miller’s back-ups…well Yao and Miller better not miss too many regular season games.
