Prior to the year 2024, this had only occurred once before, back in 1989, when both Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers and Wayne Gretzky of the Los Angeles Kings received their respective league’s top awards at the Great Western Forum.\n<\/p>\n

\nIn 2024, this rare phenomenon repeated itself. At the Ball Arena, Denver Nuggets’ big man Nikola Jokic clinched the NBA MVP while Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche garnered the Hart Memorial Trophy.\n<\/p>\n

\nThis occasion allowed for a memorable exchange between the two athletes: Jokic handed over the Hart Trophy to MacKinnon, who in return, presented Jokic with his MVP award.\n<\/p>\n

\nJokic, having claimed his third MVP award, continues to build on his impressive career, while MacKinnon has secured his first Hart Trophy after being a top contender in four previous occasions.\n<\/p>\n

\nBoth athletes have started their seasons strongly, with Jokic scoring 41 points and recording a triple-double in his first two games, and MacKinnon accumulating 13 points in his first eight games.\n<\/p>\n
