After a hiatus spanning more than 1,000 days, former Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball made his NBA comeback. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Now a member of the Chicago Bulls, the 26-year-old Ball had been sidelined for over two seasons before stepping back onto the court during the Bulls’ narrow 125-123 preseason victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Welcomed with applause as he entered the game, Ball’s return marked his first appearance since January 2022. In his comeback game, he contributed 10 points, secured one rebound, and delivered one assist against the Timberwolves. Ball continued to show promise in the Bulls’ subsequent preseason game on Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, tallying 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists.<\/p>\n

“Honestly, it feels like a blessing,” Ball shared in an interview with ESPN’s Shams Charania and Malika Andrews. “The number 1,000 days is surreal, it seemed to pass quicker than I expected. The journey has been incredible and quite lengthy.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“This journey wasn\u2019t taken alone,” Ball added. “The Bulls, my teammates, the training staff, and the executives have supported me throughout. Receiving the game ball and having a jersey signed by everyone, those are moments I\u2019ll cherish forever and never forget.”<\/p>\n

Ball suffered a meniscus tear during his first season with the Bulls in 2021-22, a repeat injury from his time with the Lakers. He underwent three arthroscopic surgeries, one of which was a procedure no NBA player had previously returned from successfully, casting doubt on his future in professional basketball. Ball had to relearn basic movements, such as walking, during his recovery.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Although he may not assume the same role he held before his lengthy absence, Ball is eager to make meaningful contributions to the Bulls this season.<\/p>\n

“I’m prepared to play significant minutes in whatever capacity necessary,” Ball stated. “My goal is to aid the team in winning. I’m not focused on personal statistics; I just want to perform my role effectively. I believe I can still compete at a high level, which is why I chose to return and continue playing.”<\/p>\n
