As the 2024-25 NBA season approaches, various preseason forecasts are appearing on social media feeds everywhere. One prediction, in particular, caught the attention of Memphis Grizzlies’ star point guard Ja Morant as he gears up for his sixth season in the league.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NBA TV’s social media profile recently shared a graphic from a survey conducted among GMs, querying them about who they believe will be the standout star of the upcoming season.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Morant was ranked joint second in this survey, accumulating 10% of the votes, tying with Evan Mobley from the Cleveland Cavaliers and trailing just behind Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Morant was puzzled to be considered for this breakout player category, given his credentials including two All-Star appearances and MVP considerations in two different seasons.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his confusion, politely questioning why he was included on the list.<\/p>\n

It is difficult to see how Morant could surpass his previous achievements. Since being named Rookie of the Year in the 2019-20 season, he has reached a career-high average of 27.4 points per game during his third year and was selected for the All-Star games in 2021-22 and 2022-23.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Morant played only nine games last year and has participated in a total of 70 games over the last two seasons. This might make him a more likely contender for the Comeback Player of the Year rather than a breakout star.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Morant and the Grizzlies will start their season on the road against the Utah Jazz on October 23, where he undoubtedly hopes to chase an MVP title rather than a breakout player accolade.<\/p>\n
