Attention Atlanta Hawks management: it might be time to make a call.<\/p>\n

ESPN analyst Marc Spears reports that Trae Young, the prominent point guard for the Hawks, feels let down due to the absence of a contract extension offer. Spears shared this insight on a Tuesday broadcast of NBA Today<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“From what I\u2019ve gathered\u2014and Trae\u2019s recent tweet along with his appearance during the Finals seem to confirm this\u2014he is quite disappointed that no offer has been made,” Spears explained. “At this point, don\u2019t be shocked if he decides to play through the next season and see what comes up next summer.”<\/p>\n

Young, whose current contract is valid until the 2025-26 season with an option for 2026-27, is now eligible for a four-year extension worth $229 million.<\/p>\n

Earlier in July, Young tweeted an “hourglass” emoji on X (formerly Twitter), possibly hinting at his patience running thin. He also expressed his support for Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, who is currently embroiled in a contract dispute with owner Jerry Jones.<\/p>\n

“This is why you secure a deal early, when someone is willing to accept less to stay where they love. Now, the price only increases!” Young commented in support of Parsons’s trade request. “Claim what you deserve, brother!”<\/p>\n

These statements should serve as a direct signal to the Hawks’ executives.<\/p>\n

Last season, the 26-year-old Young averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and led the NBA with 11.6 assists per game, clearly making a strong case for a new agreement. His comments indicate a strong preference to remain with his current team. However, other team executives from around the league are closely observing Young’s situation, as per a July report by ESPN’s Shams Charania, and the unpredictable nature of contract negotiations is well known.<\/p>\n

For now, it seems the Hawks might opt to wait and possibly address this matter next year.<\/p>\n
