It seems almost guaranteed that Cooper Flagg will be the first choice for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2025 NBA Draft, which is scheduled for next week. The significant role played by Brian Scalabrine in Flagg\u2019s journey to becoming a top-tier prospect is a pivotal part of his story.<\/p>\n

Brian Scalabrine, who transitioned from playing in the NBA to broadcasting for the Boston Celtics, also mentors young basketball talents in Boston. He met Flagg when the latter was a promising eighth grader and played a crucial role in his development, especially during his time before joining Duke.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s like a supercomputer,\u201d Scalabrine explained to Mannix. \u201cGive him a day, and he\u2019ll master anything you’ve taught him. Imagine a player who can adapt and understand something new within a day. His mental agility is comparable to that of Chris Paul and LeBron James. I\u2019ve never seen anyone with a basketball IQ as high as his,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Such comparisons are lofty, indeed, but they underscore the immense potential seen in Flagg. Not only does he possess the necessary physical attributes of a leading prospect, but his strategic understanding and performance at Duke have also impressed many, matching his scoring and defensive skills. Last season, as a freshman, he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game for the Blue Devils.<\/p>\n
