Adrian Wojnarowski, the renowned journalist known for breaking numerous NBA stories, left ESPN after seven years to manage the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team last September. Five months into his new role, he has not once regretted his decision.<\/p>\n

In a recent dialogue with cllct, a sports memorabilia media outlet, Wojnarowski recounted where he was during the night of February 2nd when the major Luka Doncic trade occurred.<\/p>\n

“I was just going to bed,” Wojnarowski stated succinctly.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“I received a few texts from some NBA contacts. I checked my phone, saw the news, turned off my phone, and went to bed,” Wojnarowski elaborated. “There was a significant recruiting event I was preparing for, and that was where my attention was… I haven\u2019t really dwelt on the trade. It was a major NBA move, but I\u2019m not familiar with the details or the motivations behind it, and I haven\u2019t inquired further.”<\/p>\n

“I looked, I saw it, I shut my phone off and went to sleep.” <\/p>\n

Wojnarowski might have been the only person to sleep through the news of the trade that sent Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks. His successor at ESPN, Shams Charania, was the one who reported the trade, which led to a mix of surprise and confusion across the NBA community.<\/p>\n

After concluding a distinguished 30-year career in sports journalism, Wojnarowski is content with his career shift. He mentioned feeling more engaged and present in his interactions at St. Bonaventure, his alma mater.<\/p>\n
