The appointment of Kenny Atkinson as head coach by the Cleveland Cavaliers, poached from the Golden State Warriors on June 28, initially led fans to anticipate a slight improvement over the previous coach, J.B. Bickerstaff.<\/p>\n

However, what has unfolded since then has surpassed even the highest hopes. With a record of 35-6, the Cavaliers now boast the best record in the NBA at this midpoint of the season.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Monday as reported by Duane Rankin from The Arizona Republic<\/em>, even Atkinson himself admitted the team’s success was unexpected.<\/p>\n

“We knew we were well-prepared coming out of training camp, but to say we were confident this would be the outcome\u2014absolutely not. It\u2019s been a total surprise,” Atkinson confessed.<\/p>\n

The Cavaliers need to secure 31 wins out of their next 41 games to equal the franchise\u2019s best record of 66-16, previously set in 2009 under the leadership of LeBron James.<\/p>\n

Cleveland will kick off the latter half of the season against the Phoenix Suns in a special Martin Luther King Jr. Day game on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
