\nIn a recent conversation with ESPN’s Shams Charania, Derrick Rose, the former guard for the Chicago Bulls, expressed his hope to see his number retired by the franchise during a ceremony at the United Center on Saturday night.\n<\/p>\n

\nHis dream is now becoming a reality.\n<\/p>\n

\nCharania reports that next season, the Bulls will hang Rose’s No. 1 jersey from the rafters at the United Center.\n<\/p>\n

Next season, the Chicago Bulls will honor Derrick Rose by retiring his No. 1 jersey at the United Center, ESPN has confirmed. Rose, born and raised in Chicago, spent eight memorable seasons with the Bulls, earning the title of youngest MVP in NBA history. \n“Rose, who hails from Chicago, played eight seasons for the Bulls,” Charania noted in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “…[He] is now being celebrated as a cornerstone of the organization.”\n<\/p>\n

\nDuring a recent interview with ESPN, Rose mentioned that having his jersey retired by the Bulls would be a way for him “to be close to the top 75.” To put it in perspective, Rose was overlooked for the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team in 2021, making him the only former MVP not to be included on the list.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe Bulls initially drafted Rose as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft following his standout tenure with the Memphis Tigers. As a native of the Englewood area on the South Side of Chicago, he quickly rose to prominence as one of the city\u2019s most beloved athletes. Rose earned three All-Star selections between 2010 and 2012 and secured the NBA MVP award in 2011 at the young age of 22.\n<\/p>\n

\nDespite a series of knee injuries that slowed his career progress, the 36-year-old Rose played 15 seasons in the NBA. After his seven-year stint in Chicago from 2009 to ’16, he played for the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies. Rose ended his career after the 2023-24 season, achieving an average of 17.4 points over 723 games.\n<\/p>\n
