The platform is testing yet another innovative functionality that will delight its most indecisive users. How often have you found yourself lost among the millions of videos suggested by the algorithm, unsure of what to watch?<\/p>\n<p>Endlessly scrolling through YouTube&#8217;s diverse content is a universal experience that many users have undoubtedly encountered. However, this aimless wandering might soon be a thing of the past as the app is about to add a new button that simplifies video search.<\/p>\n<h2>A Random Play Feature Perfect for the Perpetually Undecided<\/h2>\n<p>YouTube continually innovates to maintain its dominance in the streaming world, and the introduction of a &#8220;Play Something&#8221; button underscores this trend. With this feature, currently in the testing phase, users can let the app randomly select a video for them. This eliminates the long hours of indecision that often accompany the search for the right content to watch.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:center\"><\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\" style=\"display:inline-block\"><figcaption data-credit=\"9To5Google\"><small>\u00a9 9To5Google<\/small><\/figcaption>\n        <\/figure>\n<p>\n    <\/div>\n<p>As YouTube is on track to host nearly a billion videos, choosing quality content can be challenging. With the &#8220;Play Something&#8221; feature, any video could be selected, opening up possibilities for discovery and novelty. This could be a chance to encounter new YouTubers and expand one&#8217;s personal library on the app.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube&#8217;s new update could bring more attention to forgotten and less viewed videos. The &#8220;Play Something&#8221; button might encourage overlooked creators to continue their endeavors.<\/p>\n<h2>A Netflix Knockoff?<\/h2>\n<p>Although the idea of adding a &#8220;Play Something&#8221; button seems clever, it is not entirely original. Netflix, another major streaming platform, had implemented a similar if not identical feature. Launched in 2021 after a testing period, the button allowed viewers to play a program randomly during moments of indecision. However, by 2022, the &#8220;Play Something&#8221; feature had vanished from the platform without any explanation from Netflix.<\/p>\n<p>Does this mysterious removal suggest the feature was useless? Does the &#8220;Play Something&#8221; feature encourage consumption or is it merely gimmicky? YouTube appears to bet on the former, as the feature is set to officially join the app in the coming months.
