Anthony Edwards was visibly upset with his teammate Rudy Gobert after a peculiar incident led to a lost possession for the Minnesota Timberwolves during their 110-105 defeat against the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During the final five minutes of a knotted game, Timberwolves forward Julius Randle had control of the ball on the perimeter while Gobert, the Timberwolves’ 7-foot-1 center, was positioned in the key. He was guarded by the Raptors’ 6-foot-7 forward Scottie Barnes right beneath the hoop. Despite Gobert’s vigorous signals for the ball, Randle opted not to pass it to him.<\/p>\n

Adding to the confusion, Gobert failed to exit the key in a timely manner and consequently, was penalized with a three-second violation, resulting in a turnover for the Timberwolves.<\/p>\n

Edwards was clearly displeased.<\/p>\n

Gobert was in a favorable position to receive the ball, especially being guarded by a smaller player right under the basket. It remains unclear what Randle was focused on, or why he failed to make the pass to Gobert. Moreover, Gobert did not make any effort to leave the key once it was apparent that he would not receive the pass.<\/p>\n

Edwards, who is effectively the team leader, seemed to unfairly attribute the blame solely to Gobert for the botched play.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This possession incidentally illustrated the struggles of the night for Minnesota, who had difficulty finding their offensive groove, shooting only 41.3 percent from the field and committing 17 turnovers throughout the game.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Timberwolves (8-7) will next face the reigning champion Boston Celtics (12-3) on Sunday.<\/p>\n
