However, he ultimately disobeys… Gi-hun, unable to return to his pre-game life, seems determined to end the Squid Game. Will he join the new edition to destroy the Squid Game from within? Will his disobedience put him in greater danger? If Netflix subscribers find an answer, it will be in Season 2, if it ever happens.
Why Has Squid Game Sparked Controversy in Schools?
Squid Game has been a massive hit on Netflix. The South Korean series features violently played children’s games, often resulting in death. The show’s success has led many children who have heard about Squid Game, which is not suitable for those under 16. In schoolyards, some replicate the series’ challenges, raising alarms within the Ministry of National Education. On LCI, Jean-Michel Blanquer called for “responsibility” from everyone, so that the youngest viewers do not watch the series. “It’s clear that platforms have a responsibility… and it’s normally prohibited for under 16s, perhaps we need to consider measures that allow for real parental control over such matters.” However, a parental control feature does exist on the streaming platform, under Account > Profile and parental control > Access restrictions. Jean-Michel Blanquer also appealed to the responsibility of parents: “we will achieve nothing if parents do not commit to checking more of what’s happening,” he stated. “Do not let children alone with screens.” School principals and headmasters have been alerted to the phenomenon, and some parents may have received messages about this series.
Recommended Age for Watching Squid Game
In France, Squid Game is controversial in schools: children are recreating the games from the Netflix series. Thus, the question of the appropriate viewing age arises. The streaming platform directly states on the Squid Game page that this content is intended for viewers aged 16 and up, due to its violence. How then can we prevent children and those under 16 from watching the series?
Beyond youth accounts, it is possible to set up parental controls on one’s Netflix account. Simply go to Account > Profile and parental control > Access restrictions. Here you can change the age category (content not fitting the imposed age limit will no longer be accessible) or target specific content that should not appear, like Squid Game for instance. However, if you have multiple profiles that your children can access, it is important to enforce these restrictions across all profiles.
