Why the Timberwolves Can’t Win at Home: Uncover the Bizarre Reason!

The Minnesota Timberwolves have experienced a mixed season when it comes to their performance on their home court, with an even .500 record, contrasted by a more successful run in away games. Recently, the team faced consecutive losses at home, one of which was against the underperforming Washington Wizards last Saturday. Notably, key players Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle were absent due to health issues, with Edwards suffering from an illness and Randle sidelined by a groin injury.

This Wednesday presents an opportunity for the Timberwolves to tip their home record into positive territory as they host the Chicago Bulls. In the meantime, they are examining the causes behind their inconsistent home performances. Veteran guard Mike Conley suggests that the presence of newborns in several players’ homes might be a contributing factor.

Conley shared with The Athletic‘s Jon Krawczynski that the initial six to seven months of parenting are particularly challenging for athletes. He explained, “You’re trying to sleep and you can’t really sleep at home. You look forward to the road trips because that’s the first time you really get to sleep.”

Several Timberwolves players have recently become fathers. Edwards had to leave a game early last March for the birth of his child, Rudy Gobert welcomed a new child in May, Nickeil Alexander-Walker in April, and Jaden McDaniels also joined the ranks of new fathers.

With these added responsibilities, sleep has become a precious commodity that is often easier to come by on the road than at home. The effects of rest are noticeable on the court, where better rest correlates with better performance. While the situation may improve with time, for now, these new fathers on the team might be relying heavily on caffeine to keep up with their demanding schedules.
