Since society shifted into the digital age, dystopian content has flooded our streaming platforms. Ex Machina, M3GAN, Big Bug—AI fuels both our fantasies and our nightmares. Cassandra is a German miniseries directed by Benjamin Gutsche (All you need) which in its six episodes of sci-fi thriller, follows a family’s nightmare journey as they are tormented by an Artificial Intelligence harboring dark secrets.
Inspired by the award-winning short story published in 1967, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, Cassandra has been available for streaming on the video-on-demand platform Netflix since February 6, 2025.
What is the Plot of Cassandra?
Samira moves with her husband and daughter into a long-vacant house, empty since the mysterious death of its previous occupants 50 years earlier. Upon arrival, she encounters a robotic creature topped with a screen displaying a woman’s face. This robot, created in the 1970s, is named Cassandra and comes to life to serve the new family. While initially she anticipates and meets their every need, Cassandra gradually becomes overbearing, and Samira witnesses disturbing events. Struggling to convince her husband, she soon realizes that the seemingly helpful Cassandra harbors a horrific secret, and escaping her grip proves difficult: the AI has no intention of losing another family.
