On a recent Friday, the San Francisco 49ers finalized a significant contract extension with quarterback Brock Purdy, ticking off a critical item on their offseason agenda. Purdy, who is still due to complete the final year of his initial rookie deal, secured a five-year contract worth $265 million, which includes $181 million guaranteed.

This new agreement means Purdy will earn an average of $53 million per year, positioning him as the seventh highest-paid quarterback in the NFL based on annual earnings. Meanwhile, Tyrese Haliburton, a friend and former Iowa State colleague of Purdy’s, reacted with humorous enthusiasm to the news of the lucrative contract.

Haliburton shared the NFL’s announcement of the deal on social media, adding a playful and celebratory angle to his repost. Describing his reaction doesn’t do it justice—it’s better seen for yourself.

See the fun response below:

Purdy and Haliburton first met in 2018 during their freshman year at Iowa State and have openly supported each other since then.

“I’m thrilled for him. This is a thrilling time for him and his family,” Haliburton expressed in 2024, when Purdy led the 49ers to the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. “It’s no surprise seeing what he’s accomplished.”

Purdy shared similar sentiments during the Pacers’ playoff campaign last year. “He’s playing great, so I’m just letting him do his thing and fully supporting him. I’ve got his back, really happy for him, man. Hope he takes it all the way,” the quarterback remarked.

It’s always great to see such support.
