Earlier this month, Rasheed Wallace, a former NBA All-Star, shared a unique viewpoint on the Sheed & Tyler show, suggesting that Michael Jordan was more formidable during his later years with the Washington Wizards than during his peak years with the Chicago Bulls. Wallace argued, “I think he was a little more dangerous when he was with the Wizards. He may have lost some of his famed athleticism, but his game was sharper, his shooting more lethal, and his overall play more seasoned during those years.”
Wallace’s comments highlight a phase of Jordan’s career that is often overshadowed by his earlier successes. Jordan, during his time with the Wizards from 2001 to 2003, played 142 games and posted averages of 21.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. These figures represent a noticeable decline from his career averages of 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game.

Despite Wallace’s claims, statistics show that Jordan’s shooting efficiency actually declined during his Wizards years, with a field-goal percentage of 43.9% compared to his 51% career average, and his three-point shooting dropped to 24.1% from a career average of 32.7%.
Wallace did emphasize, however, “Don’t leave him open. He’s still out there talking trash and making plays. The main element missing was his athleticism.”
Unfortunately, Jordan’s stint with the Wizards did not translate into team success, as Washington failed to make the playoffs in both seasons.
