The countdown has begun. On July 16, Netflix unveiled an initial trailer for the finale of Stranger Things. The streaming platform is set to wrap up the saga of the Hawkins residents spectacularly, if the promising first glimpses are any indication. Explosions, action-packed scenes, terrifying creatures, and even tears are all in store, promising a deeply emotional conclusion for fans. Notably, the teaser features Linda Hamilton (the iconic Sarah Connor from the Terminator series) and marks the return of Vecna.
The end of the year will reveal how our heroes tackle the emergence of the Upside Down in the Indiana town: the first “volume” of season 5 will be available online at 2 AM on November 27, 2025. For the rest, viewers will have to wait until December 26 (at the same time) and then January 1, 2026 (also at 2 AM) to find out what fate Netflix has in store for our heroes. In Hawkins (Indiana), in 1983, 12-year-old Will Byers mysteriously disappears. His friends, as well as his family and the police chief Jim Hopper, investigate his disappearance. Meanwhile, a young girl with supernatural powers, Eleven, is found by Lucas, Mike, and Dustin, Will’s friends. Concurrently, a teenager, Barbara, is abducted by a mysterious creature, the Demogorgon, and ends up with Will in a parallel world, “the Upside Down”. The National Laboratory of Hawkins indeed conducts experiments (the MKULTRA project) to open a portal to this parallel dimension, which is teeming with malevolent creatures. At the end of season 1, Will is found alive and returned to Hawkins, unlike Barbara. Eleven sacrifices herself to save Will and kill the Demogorgon. She disappears. Over the course of season 2, Nancy breaks up with Steve and starts a relationship with Jonathan. Lucas gets close to Max. Eleven eventually reunites with her friends after learning the truth about her past and her powers. The portal is finally closed, along with the Hawkins laboratory. Our heroes enjoy the summer carefree. But their rest is short-lived as Soviet scientists attempt to open a portal to the Upside Down. The Mind Flayer and its creatures return and take possession of Billy, Max’s brother. He is ultimately killed at the end of the season. During one of the battles, Eleven loses her powers, and Hopper sacrifices himself to close the portal opened by the Russian base. Once again, our heroes manage to prevent the creatures of the Upside Down from spreading in Hawkins, but the sacrifice is great. The Byers family ends up taking in Eleven and leaves Hawkins to start a new life elsewhere. While everyone believes Hopper is dead, we learn that an American prisoner is being held in a Russian prison in Kamchatka, where Demogorgons are kept captive. Netflix has confirmed that season 5 of Stranger Things will be the last, but it will be released in three parts: the first chapter will be available on November 26, 2025, the second on December 26, 2025, and the final installment is scheduled for January 1, 2026. The release will take place at 2 AM.
