Stephen A. Smith Slams Sixers’ Season as a Joke: “No One Cares!”

The Philadelphia 76ers’ already slim playoff hopes are fading fast, as Shams Charania recently reported that the team is exploring different medical treatments for Joel Embiid’s troublesome knee, which might include surgery. Despite a disappointing 20-36 record, the Sixers are surprisingly just 1.5 games shy of the last Play-In spot, indicating a season that seems all but over. At this juncture, focusing on rebuilding might be more prudent than attempting another championship run with the existing squad.

Stephen A. Smith sharply criticized the team during Sunday night’s ESPN NBA Countdown.

“America, you just don’t care about the Sixers, and neither do we,” Smith proclaimed. “Windy has already laid it out for you. He advised ‘lose’ to keep your lottery pick, that Top-6 protected pick. And you have the perfect excuse because Paul George is injured. He hasn’t been healthy all year, even if he has appeared in some games. And Joel Embiid—when did he ever look in good form this season? When did he seem agile? It just hasn’t happened.”

“Lose,” Smith reiterated. “Rest Joel Embiid for the remainder of the season. Do the same with Paul George. Just write off this season and start planning for the next three years because this season is a farce.”

While Smith is known for his passionate commentary on virtually any sports team, it’s debatable whether such fervor indicates genuine concern. However, that discussion is for another time.

Nonetheless, one group that genuinely cares about the Sixers are their fans, who are undoubtedly struggling with the current state of affairs. Given the team’s recent performance and Embiid’s frequent injuries, their frustration is understandable.
