On a memorable Friday evening, Quincy Olivari, a rookie guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, saw his dreams turn into reality.

After completing five seasons in college basketball, Olivari, who joined the Lakers as an undrafted free agent this summer, was in the starting lineup for the Lakers’ preseason game against the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center. Although Olivari’s idol, Steph Curry, did not play in the game, the two had a chance to talk and even snapped a photo together afterward.

Olivari expressed deep emotion when he spoke about his interaction with Curry during the postgame press conference.

“I don’t even know what to say, man,” Olivari shared about his conversation with Curry. “He’s my all-time favorite player. He first told me, ‘I’m a big fan of your game.’ And honestly, I’m a huge fan of his.

“Growing up, I had his jersey, which he signed twice. I would sleep in it because I wanted so badly to be like him. Meeting him, earning some respect from him, and having a personal chat where he even gave me a pair of his signed shoes was incredibly meaningful to me. It just means so much.”

Later that evening, Curry also recognized Olivari on Instagram.

“Pleasure bro,” Curry posted. “Appreciate you being genuine and sharing your story!”

Olivari also had an impressive performance on the court, scoring a team-high 22 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out two assists, despite the Lakers’ heavy 132–74 defeat.

With the preseason wrapped up, the Lakers face a challenging decision regarding Olivari, especially since they already have three two-way players under contract for the season. Regardless of the outcome, the 23-year-old rookie will cherish his unforgettable encounter on Friday night.
