In an effort to infuse some winning spirit into Busch Stadium, especially before their important game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Cardinals brought in two champions to deliver the ceremonial first pitches.
Local Heroes Take the Mound
The honor of throwing the first pitches was given to Jayson Tatum, a forward with the Boston Celtics, and Matthew Tkachuk, a forward with the Florida Panthers. Both athletes are not only champions in their respective sports but also hail from St. Louis and were classmates at Chaminade High School. They adorned Cardinals attire as they took to the mound.
The duo simultaneously threw their pitches and celebrated the moment with a high five before stepping off the mound.
