An American student arrives at Oxford for her studies, but her path takes unexpected turns due to a charismatic professor and a surprising romance.
Before it was made into a film, My Oxford Year was a literary journey: a novel by Julia Whelan published in 2018, originally inspired by a screenplay written by Allison Burnett (Autumn in New York). The project was shelved for a while before Netflix decided to bring it to life. Directed by Iain Morris, known for The Inbetweeners, he infuses the romance with his unique pacing. For added authenticity, the rom-com was filmed in England, across various Oxford University colleges and in Windsor.
The movie features two stars who are no strangers to Netflix collaborations: Sofia Carson, known from Carry-On and Tomorrow is Another Day, and Corey Mylchreest, who appeared in The Queen Charlotte. Supporting them are Dougray Scott (the villain in Mission: Impossible 2), Catherine McCormack (Mel Gibson’s wife in Braveheart and Megan in Spy Game).
