At the age of 55, Wojnarowski disclosed that he would be leaving his position at ESPN after a successful seven-year tenure. He has accepted a new role as the general manager for the men’s basketball team at St. Bonaventure University, his alma mater, as reported by Adam Schefter.
“Journalism has profoundly changed my life, but it’s time to step away from ESPN and the world of news reporting,” Wojnarowski stated. “These past seven years at ESPN have been especially meaningful. … After years of covering everyone else’s teams, I’m returning to my own.”
Since joining ESPN in 2017, Wojnarowski has become a prominent figure in sports media, having been a sports journalist for over three decades. His contributions have significantly enhanced NBA reporting, making the news of his own retirement unexpected and impactful, even catching his supervisors off-guard. His presence in sports media will be greatly missed.
Colleagues, friends, and associates have expressed their best wishes to Wojnarowski as he transitions to this new phase of his career.
Wow. Congrats & best wishes to you and your family on your retirement. It was an honor to work with you for 15-plus years. You changed the ways that news is broken in sports and will be forever remembered for your Woj bombs. Respect my friend. Definitely left on top. Go Bonnies! https://t.co/rmgypIOC24

“I understand the commitment required in my role and it’s an investment that I’m no longer driven to make.” Congrats to @wojespn on a remarkable run as a writer and newsbreaker. That’s a loooong time to be on call for what always seemed like 24-7-365. https://t.co/qPKx8LCCjK

Woj is one of the best sports reporters, columnist and writers ever to talk the earth. More importantly he’s as nice and supportive of young journalists as anyone in this industry. I can speak to that first hand but so too can dozens of others. As good as it gets. A true legend. https://t.co/8QoK2j3xBX
