The court determined that Kay had shared a threatening message, advocating for the burning of a hotel housing asylum seekers. He claimed that he had simply copied and pasted the message from another account, but that didn’t absolve him from responsibility.

This case is one of the first in a series of legal actions taken against individuals who have used the ongoing unrest as a platform to promote xenophobia and violence. The riots, which have been raging for two weeks, were sparked by a stabbing incident in the northwest of England that tragically claimed the lives of three young girls. The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, has been identified as the son of Rwandan immigrants.
