The New Orleans Pelicans have decided to suspend their prominent player, Zion Williamson, for one game due to a breach of team protocols, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The reason behind Williamson’s suspension was his tardiness in joining the team’s flight to Philadelphia on Thursday.

Williamson will therefore miss the game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, but he is expected to be reinstated for subsequent games. He had just returned to playing on Tuesday night after being sidelined for two months due to a hamstring injury. Although he did not play in Wednesday’s game due to it being the second of back-to-back games—a precautionary measure as he eases back into playing—he now faces a further setback with this suspension.

This suspension adds to an already challenging season for Williamson, who has struggled with maintaining his health and staying active. After appearing in 70 games last season, his highest in any season so far, Williamson has played in only seven games this current season. His performance when available has been strong, with averages of 22.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.

Williamson has proven to be an impressive force whenever he is on the court.

It is yet to be determined if he will take part in Sunday’s game against the Boston Celtics after his suspension is lifted.
