Oblique injuries are uncommon in the sport of basketball, which is why Orlando Magic supporters were taken aback when Paolo Banchero sustained one on October 30.

Now, over a month after Banchero’s incident, another promising young player from the team has fallen victim to a similar injury.

According to a report by Shams Charania of ESPN on Saturday afternoon, Orlando Magic’s forward Franz Wagner will be sidelined for an undetermined period after tearing his right oblique during a game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, which ended in a 102–94 loss for Orlando.

At 23 years old, Wagner has been posting personal bests this season with an average of 24.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. His outstanding performance has been a significant factor in the Magic’s impressive record of 16-9, placing them third in the Eastern Conference standings.

The oblique muscle is crucial for core movement, and while injuries to this muscle are frequently seen in baseball, they are not as common in basketball, as fans of Orlando Magic can attest.

Without Banchero and Wagner, the Magic are set to face the Phoenix Suns away from home on Sunday.
