Long-time NBA sharpshooter Danny Green has decided to hang up his sneakers after a 15-year career, making the announcement on his own podcast, Inside the Green Room with Danny Green.

“I’m officially stepping away from NBA basketball,” declared Green. “It’s been an incredible journey. I am truly honored that I can step away on my own terms. I’ve made peace with this decision. Initially, it was tough, but turning 37, I noticed changes in my body’s reaction and my mental drive was not as intense.

Being out of professional play for a year…trying to engage in pickup games, trying to demonstrate to teams my capabilities, I realized I was pushing myself more than necessary, which is expected when you love the sport and are eager to continue. However, I feel there’s nothing left for me to prove.”

Indeed, Green’s impact as a top-tier sharpshooter and wing player of his era is undeniable. He played a pivotal role on several championship squads, becoming one of only four players in NBA history to win titles with three different teams. He secured his first championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, followed by the Toronto Raptors in 2019, and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

Throughout his 15 seasons, Green was a member of six NBA teams including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Memphis Grizzlies, in addition to the Spurs, Raptors, and Lakers. His career averages include 8.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, shooting 42.1% from the field and 40.0% from three-point range.
