NBA Commissioner Adam Silver understands the frustration of Dallas Mavericks supporters.

While speaking on the Pat McAfee Show Thursday, Silver acknowledged the displeasure of the Mavericks fanbase following the trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal, which was primarily for Anthony Davis, led to protests outside the Mavericks’ arena and widespread calls on social media for the dismissal of general manager Nico Harrison, intensifying since the trade date on February 2.

Silver discussed these developments with McAfee.

“It’s been a turbulent period since the transaction, no doubt about it. Just consider Anthony Davis—remarkably—getting injured in his very first outing as a Maverick. Then, Kyrie [Irving] suffers a season-ending injury as well. Despite everything, I admire how the team has continued to compete fiercely. They still have a shot at reaching the playoffs in their game tomorrow night,” explained Silver.

“I completely understand the fans’ passion. I know why the fans of the Dallas Mavericks are deeply upset. I’m personally a fan of Luka Doncic too; he’s an outstanding young player. Let’s wait and see the outcome. I’m rooting for his success, as well as for the Mavericks,” he added.

“Having been in the league for many years, it’s truly fascinating to see how much attention this trade has garnered,” Silver remarked.

Silver also clarified that the decision to trade Doncic was not financially motivated but was believed to be the right strategic move for the team’s future.

The consequences of this decision will unfold in time.
