Following his earlier films “Bronx” and “Pax Massilia,” French director Olivier Marchal has released a new movie on the streaming platform. Here’s what you need to know about the film.

Twenty years after the highly acclaimed 36 Quai des Orfèvres, which established Olivier Marchal as a seasoned director, he returns with a new movie depicting a police war. “It’s sort of a nod,” the director himself told the Belgian site dhnet. Bastion 36 has been available since February 28, 2025, on Netflix. This police drama set in modern-day Paris is based on the novel Flic Requiem by Michel Tourscher.

To portray the various police characters, Olivier Marchal cast Victor Belmondo, the grandson of Jean-Paul Belmondo, who already boasts significant experience (Bardot, Vivre, mourir, renaître, Envole-moi), Tewfik Jallab (Engrenages, Pax Massilia), the well-known Yvan Attal, and Juliette Dol, who had previously acted for Olivier Marchal in Section Zéro.

What is the plot of Bastion 36?

In Paris, police commander Antoine Cerda, previously with the BRI, is transferred to the Anti-Crime Brigade following a penalty from the General Inspection. He then turns his back on his former comrades-in-arms, led by the charismatic Sami Belkaïm. Thirteen months later, two members of his old team are killed within 24 hours. When a third member mysteriously vanishes, Antoine Cerda decides to conduct his own investigation. His probe thrusts him into an intense police war, leading him on a harrowing descent into hell.
