Mark Cuban, a minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, was taken by surprise, just like many others, when it was revealed that Luka Doncic was being sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade involving Anthony Davis late on Saturday night.

After selling his majority stake in the team in 2023, Cuban stated that he had no role in the decision-making process for the trade. He disclosed to Front Office Sports that he was unaware of the impending trade but did receive a notification shortly before the public announcement.

Cuban described the trade of Doncic as “confusing” and has largely kept his comments to a minimum, expressing his ongoing support by stating “MFFL,” which stands for “Mavericks Fan for Life.”

Having played a pivotal role in acquiring Doncic in 2018 by moving up in the draft, Cuban, who was then the team governor, expressed that Doncic had hoped to spend his entire career with the Mavericks. The decision by general manager Nico Harrison to trade Doncic took him by surprise, leaving him emotional and reportedly in tears upon hearing the news.

The trade has also upset many Mavericks fans, some of whom demonstrated their discontent by protesting outside the American Airlines Arena on Sunday.
