Magic Johnson Awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom: His Emotional Reaction Revealed!

On Saturday, Magic Johnson was honored with a significant accolade, further enriching his collection of awards.

During a ceremony at the White House, Johnson was among 19 distinguished individuals to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This group of honorees also included notable figures such as soccer star Lionel Messi, U2’s Bono, acclaimed actor Denzel Washington, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Expressing his emotions on X on Saturday night, Johnson said, “I am so humbled and overwhelmed with emotion right now. Receiving the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden is an absolute honor and privilege. It’s beyond my wildest dreams that this kid from Lansing, Michigan, would be recognized with one of the United States’ highest civilian honors.”

He continued, “I accept this honor with a profound sense of duty. It reminds me of the ongoing work and the changes we can all contribute to. I pledge to continue striving to make a positive impact on our nation and the world.”

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded by the White House to individuals who have made “exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant public or private pursuits,” as stated by the White House.

Throughout his presidency, Biden has presented this award to several athletes, including Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Megan Rapinoe, Katie Ledecky, and Jim Thorpe.
