The Dallas Mavericks kicked off their season with a victory over the San Antonio Spurs, concluding the game at 120-109 on Thursday evening. Despite experiencing a challenging shooting evening, Luka Doncic managed to score 28 points, grab 10 rebounds, and provide eight assists.

Focusing on one of those assists, in the third quarter, after seizing a rebound, Doncic dashed down the court with Chris Paul trailing him and Victor Wembanyama to his right. As Paul backed off to cover the basket, Wembanyama moved in, ready to defend.

In that moment, Luka leapt up, turned from the basket, and lofted a backward, over-the-head pass through Wembanyama’s arms to PJ Washington in the corner. The pass wasn’t flawless, but considering it was a 25-foot throw made blindly over his head, it was impressive enough.

Between this and Klay Thompson scoring six three-pointers in his debut with the Mavericks, Doncic should feel confident about his ability to make audacious passes throughout the season.
