As he enters his seventh year with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James has clarified his initial reasons for joining the team.

On a recent Saturday, James took to social media to refute a report that suggested motives for his departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Los Angeles Lakers after the 2017-18 NBA season.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne recently stated in her report, “One reason James was drawn to the Lakers as a free agent in 2018 was the high level of treatment they afforded during the last years of Kobe Bryant’s career, sources claimed. James appreciated both the prestige of the franchise and how it cared for its legendary players.”

James, however, expressed his disagreement.

During his six seasons so far with the Lakers, James led the team to four playoff appearances and captured the franchise’s 17th championship title in the 2020 NBA Finals. The 2023-24 season, however, saw the Lakers eliminated in the first round for the third time in four years, with a defeat by the Denver Nuggets in five games.

James’s hope to see his family prosper in Los Angeles has indeed materialized, highlighted by his son Bronny James being drafted by the Lakers as the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Bronny made his preseason debut for Los Angeles on Friday, managing two points and three blocks in 16 minutes of play.
