Durant, who will almost certainly be inducted into the Hall of Fame, likely has a very limited number of people who have defeated him, especially considering none of these are likely non-professionals in recent decades.
However, there is one individual who probably has more victories over Durant than anyone else—his own father.
Following the Phoenix Suns’ 123–112 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on a recent Friday night, a journalist prompted Durant to share an anecdote about the last time he lost to his father in basketball—a suggestion that came from his father himself.
“I was in the seventh grade,” Durant reminisced with a smile. “I was 11 years old, and we were in the driveway. He won. Right after he made the last basket, I locked him out of the house. That was over twenty years ago.”

Many of us have experienced the frustration of wanting to take our ball and leave after a difficult loss when we were younger, but this becomes tricky when the person who defeated you also lives in the same house. Locking the door was a simple yet effective retaliation.
It’s unlikely Durant’s father will secure another win against his son, but the memory of that last victory will be cherished by both for years to come.
