On Saturday, TMZ publicized a home security video capturing an altercation involving Jaxson Hayes of the Los Angeles Lakers and his former girlfriend, an event that resulted in Hayes being arrested, tased, and subsequently hospitalized. Following these events, he was mandated to perform community service and was placed on probation. With the emergence of this new footage, the NBA has decided to reopen its investigation into the matter.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick has briefly addressed the incident, confirming the team’s awareness of the NBA’s renewed investigation.

“We’re obviously aware that the investigation has been reopened and we’re going to cooperate fully. But other than that, I’m not going to have another comment on that,” Redick stated, as reported by Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

Previously, the league had conducted an investigation into the incident, which had not resulted in any disciplinary action. At the time of the incident, Hayes was playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, although the event took place in Los Angeles during the NBA offseason.

Hayes faced charges on 12 misdemeanors, which included accusations of corporal injury, property destruction, use of force, resisting arrest, and acts of force and violence against an LAPD officer as per TMZ reports. Ultimately, he entered a no contest plea to false imprisonment and resisting an officer, with the other ten charges being dismissed. His sentence included three years of probation, 450 hours of community service, and mandatory weekly domestic violence classes, according to ESPN.
