During a recent White House event, President Joe Biden was gifted a personalized Boston Celtics jersey as the basketball team made their visit last Thursday.

The jersey, bearing Biden’s name and the number 46, was presented by the team’s power forward, Jayson Tatum. In addition to the jersey, Biden also received a special basketball to commemorate the occasion.

“I don’t know any of the guys behind me, but they just showed up,” Biden humorously remarked at the beginning of his roughly 10-minute speech. He proceeded to applaud the “team ownership, players, coaches, staff, and fans,” as well as the officials from Massachusetts present, for the team’s latest NBA championship victory.

“Together you all have assembled one of the most robust teams in history,” Biden added. “Outstanding talents like Jayson, Jaylen [Brown], Derrick [White], and Jrue [Holiday]. And Big Al [Horford]. It surely wasn’t easy. You’ve been close several times before. You dedicated yourselves and achieved one of the most remarkable seasons on record.”

After concluding his remarks, the president playfully tossed the basketball to Horford, hinting that perhaps the Celtics’ bench had just expanded a little more.
