Philadelphia 76ers newcomer Jared McCain is brimming with confidence, and his early NBA performances justify his self-assurance.

In a critical NBA Cup game against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, McCain was pivotal, steering the Sixers to a 113–98 victory with his outstanding contribution of 30 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

After securing his 30th point with a three-pointer, McCain boldly declared, “I’m the Rookie of the Year.”

Despite the Sixers’ struggles early in the season, with a record of 3-12 placing them just above the Washington Wizards in the Eastern Conference, McCain stands out as a significant positive.

The Duke alumnus has had a remarkable start to his NBA journey, leading all rookies with an average of 16.5 points per game and a 42.7% success rate from the three-point line. McCain is only the fifth Sixers rookie to achieve at least 20 points in five consecutive games, a feat previously accomplished by notable players such as Joel Embiid, Allen Iverson, and Jerry Stackhouse.

While other rookies like Dalton Knecht from L.A., Memphis’ Jaylen Wells, and Zaccharie Risacher from Atlanta have also been impressive, McCain is the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year award at this stage.

McCain is well aware of his leading position in the race.

With ongoing opportunities and significant playtime, especially given the team’s injury woes, McCain is poised to further cement his status as a standout rookie. His next chance to shine will be against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. ET.
