The film Bullet Train Explosion is a remake of Jun’ya Sato’s 1975 movie Super Express 109, and echoes the plot of Jan de Bont’s Speed starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Interestingly, the American movie was also a remake of Super Express 109, albeit set on a bus. This new Japanese film—not an American production—Bullet Train Explosion will be available on Netflix starting April 23, 2025.
Directed by Shinji Higuchi, who is known for his work on Attack on Titan and co-directed Godzilla Resurgence with Hideaki Anno, the thriller features a cast of Japanese stars. Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, known from The Go Master and The Taste of Tea, stars alongside Kanata Hosada from The Land of Tanabata, Non from Tempura, and Jun Kaname, who appeared in Kingdom 2: Far and Away.
