In the world of sports, few tributes match the prestige of having a statue erected in your honor outside the team’s stadium.

Such statues are powerful symbols of an athlete’s legacy, ensuring their feats are remembered well beyond their active years.

However, not all statues receive the same acclaim, as was the case with Dwyane Wade’s statue at Miami’s Kaseya Center unveiled last October. The representation, which aimed to capture Wade’s fiery spirit, quickly became fodder for online jests.

During a conversation on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Wade displayed a positive outlook regarding the statue and his response to the critics was lighthearted.

“People can say what they want,” Wade remarked, shrugging off the mockery. “But they don’t have a statue, Jimmy. I only pay attention to those who do.”

Wade continued to express his deep gratitude for his experiences in Miami and the honor given to him by the team.

“It’s absolutely surreal. Coming from inner-city Chicago and ending my career with a statue outside the arena, it’s incredibly meaningful,” Wade shared. “I dedicated my all to basketball, both on and off the court, and for the Miami Heat to recognize me like this, it’s truly special.”

“Despite social media’s attempts to overshadow this moment, I understand the jokes and am in on them. But for those who know my story and how far I’ve come, this was a monumental moment for me and my family,” Wade explained.
