The disappointment of losing a game due to a last-second three-pointer can be as distressing as the feeling of being ignored by a longtime friend.

Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors shed light on why Steph Curry was particularly driven to outperform his ex-teammate Klay Thompson during their recent victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, which ended 120-117.

It seems that Thompson had not responded to Curry’s text messages before the game, which evidently upset Curry.

“(Steph) was like, ‘Yeah, I reached out to Raymond. Told him I’m going silent. Need to focus fully on the game, so I’m not talking. And I let Klay know.’ When he tried to follow up with Klay about something different, Klay had ignored him. That got him upset. And that was that,” Green revealed on his podcast.

Ultimately, Curry dominated the game, especially towards the end, scoring the final 12 points for the Warriors, including a decisive three-pointer with about 30 seconds left.

Curry ended the game with a total of 37 points, overshadowing Thompson’s 22 in a match that was both emotionally charged and fiercely competitive. Thompson and the Mavericks will have two more opportunities to face the Warriors this season, with games scheduled for February 12 and February 23.
