Darvin Ham, Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach, recently celebrated a significant victory as the Bucks clinched the NBA Cup title by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder last Tuesday night in Las Vegas during the league’s mid-season competition.

Despite his current success on Doc Rivers’s coaching team with the thriving Bucks, Ham still reflects on his time as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

After the Lakers were eliminated in the postseason by the Denver Nuggets last season, Ham was dismissed from his position. He had led the team to a conference finals and secured another playoff berth previously. Discussing his termination, Ham expressed to Marc Spears of Andscape that he felt he had earned the right to continue with the team.

“With the performance I delivered, I believe I’d be looking at a contract extension in any other team,” Ham stated. “This isn’t about emotions; it’s about the facts. We moved from missing the playoffs to reaching the final four in the NBA, the conference finals. Plus, we won the in-season tournament, overcame numerous injuries, and succeeded in both our play-in games to make it to the playoffs. Everyone remembers our loss to Denver, but they overlook the journey there, including victories over a formidable young Memphis team and Golden State.”

During his two seasons as head coach, Ham led the team with a record of 90-74 and held a playoff record of 9-12, which ultimately led to his firing.
