During a recent NBA game, Chris Paul surpassed Jason Kidd to move up in the rankings of all-time assist leaders. This milestone was achieved in a match where the San Antonio Spurs triumphed over the New Orleans Pelicans. To commemorate this achievement, the game was briefly paused, and the celebrations extended into the locker room post-game.

In the absence of head coach Gregg Popovich, Mitch Johnson, the acting head coach, honored Paul with several gifts. These included a special commemorative basketball, the game ball, and a plaque adorned with photos of Paul and the names of every player he has assisted in his NBA career—a list that now exceeds 12,000 names.

The recognition visibly moved Paul, who was brought to tears during his heartfelt speech to his teammates.

“I can’t say nothing but thank you, man,” Paul expressed to his team. “Seriously, I acknowledge I can be difficult at times. I swear I’m so grateful. You all have become my family while I’m away from my own. I know I can be a lot on the court, but I just love to play basketball, and I hope you all get to experience as long a career as I have. So, thank you so much.”
