On a special evening dedicated to Derrick Rose, the Chicago Bulls revealed their plans to retire his No. 1 jersey. The announcement was made during the Derrick Rose Night event, held on a game night against the New York Knicks. The Bulls plan to honor Rose by placing his jersey among the greats in the rafters during the 2025–26 season.
Michael Reinsdorf, the Bulls’ president and CEO, personally delivered the news to Rose, stating, “This weekend was supposed to be all about the fans, but you turned it around to focus on them, which is truly remarkable. However, I assure you, next year, when we hoist your number to the rafters, the spotlight will be all on you.”
Rose was visibly moved by the announcement, covering his face with his hands momentarily before returning to the scene.

Reinsdorf further added, “From now on, no one else will wear the number one jersey, unless PJ, your son, becomes a Bull. Derrick, we love you and value everything you have done for Chicago. You are truly a remarkable individual.”
Rose will be the fifth player in Bulls history to have his jersey retired, joining the esteemed ranks of Jerry Sloan (No. 4), Bob Love (No. 10), Michael Jordan (No. 23), and Scottie Pippen (No. 33).
Earlier in the week, Rose expressed to ESPN his desire to see his jersey retired by the Bulls, a dream that was fulfilled much sooner than he anticipated.
Rose recently announced his retirement from professional basketball in September after a 15-year career. He spent the bulk of his career with the Bulls, drafted as the No. 1 pick in 2008, and remained with the team until his 2016 trade to the Knicks. His tenure included three NBA All-Star selections and an NBA MVP title in 2011. Post-Bulls, he had stints with the Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies before retiring.
