On Wednesday night, the Milwaukee Bucks secured their victory as NBA Cup champions, yet they chose not to indulge in the traditional champagne celebration in the locker room after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Bucks decided against the conventional celebratory champagne, opting instead for a more subdued acknowledgment of their win as they look ahead to the rest of the season. The team’s head coach, Doc Rivers, mentioned that this decision was influenced by the suggestions of assistant coach Darvin Ham, who had previously won the NBA Cup with the Los Angeles Lakers the previous year.

The NBA had equipped the winning team’s locker room with coolers filled with champagne and Michelob Ultra, complete with safety goggles for protection during the traditional champagne shower. However, these preparations were left untouched as Milwaukee celebrated their 97–81 victory in a different manner.

Currently ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 14-11, the Bucks are focused on climbing higher in the standings following their Cup win. In contrast, Ham’s Lakers celebrated their NBA Cup win last year with champagne but ended up eighth in the Western Conference, exiting early in the playoffs.

It’s evident that while the NBA Cup is a significant achievement, the ultimate goal for teams and players remains winning the NBA Finals.
