LeBron James made history again on a memorable Friday night as his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, defeated the Atlanta Hawks with a score of 119–102.

With less than six minutes left in the game, James hit a remarkable 18-foot jumper, bringing his total to 30 points for the night. This marked the 563rd time he has scored 30 points or more in a game, surpassing the record previously held by Michael Jordan since 2003, a celebrated member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Michael Jordan established this impressive record over the course of 1,072 games in 15 seasons. In contrast, James achieved this new milestone in 1,523 games over 22 seasons. This detail did not escape Anthony Davis, James’ teammate on the Lakers, who playfully commented on the time it took James to break this record.

After the game, while in the locker room, Davis humorously teased James about his achievement in a video reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

“It took him seven more seasons,” Davis said with a chuckle. “But that’s obviously an incredible feat. At this point, it feels like he’s number one in just about everything.”

James, who has often expressed his admiration for Jordan, shared how much this new record means to him in a talk with the media.

“It’s very humbling,” James shared with the Associated Press. “Being mentioned alongside any of the legends, and perhaps the greatest who ever played, is incredibly cool. I grew up idolizing Jordan, and I chose to wear number 23 because of him.

“So, to be part of this conversation, to even be mentioned in the same breath as MJ, is just extremely awesome for me, especially coming from where I did.”
