Long-awaited by many and previously unavailable, Netflix has now introduced the capability to screenshot scenes from movies and series on its platform.

Netflix users who stream on mobile devices are aware: capturing a screenshot of a Netflix movie or series has been impossible. If you ever tried, you’d end up with a blank or black screen, thwarting any attempt to capture the moment. This feature, long criticized by users, was a method for the platform to prevent the unauthorized sharing of copyrighted images. The company recently announced that this unpopular feature is set to be removed.

“Moments”: Netflix’s New Feature

With its latest feature, “Moments”, Netflix aims to please its users and establish a unique advance over its rivals. The concept is straightforward: you can now save your favorite scene by tapping the screen and clicking the “Moments” icon at the bottom left corner of your phone. Once the scene is saved, you can revisit it as often as you like and cherish that special moment.

Each clip will be automatically stored in the “My Netflix” tab and will be labeled with the name of the show, episode number, and the exact timecode. The streaming platform also makes it easier to share these captures on social media, offering integration with major platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

The “Moments” feature is available starting today for iOS users in certain countries. Android users, however, will need to wait a few more weeks before they can access it.

Strategically Timed Launch

Releasing this highly anticipated feature now reveals a thoughtful strategy by Netflix. With the return of major titles like Squid Game at the end of 2024, the streaming giant aims to engage as many subscribers as possible for a more enjoyable viewing experience.

Barely released, the “Moments” feature is expected to see future enhancements, according to Netflix’s own staff. This is a way for the company to promise its subscribers even better viewing sessions in the future.
