Quincy Olivari’s life has undergone a remarkable transformation in just the past day.

Following his impressive performance in the Los Angeles Lakers’ last preseason game, the organization confirmed on Saturday that they have secured Olivari with a two-way contract for the 2024-25 season.

Olivari, who played college basketball at Rice and Xavier, shared his excitement by posting a screenshot from the game the previous Friday night.

While the Golden State Warriors fielded most of their main players on Friday night, Lakers coach JJ Redick afforded rest to his usual starters, paving the way for rookies and undrafted players like Olivari and second-round draft pick Bronny James to gain substantial game experience.

Playing for a team-leading 39 minutes, Olivari notched 22 points, shooting 8-for-16, and contributed seven rebounds and two assists, despite the Lakers’ 132–74 preseason defeat at Chase Center. Notably, his performance caught the attention of basketball icon Steph Curry, who was observing from the Warriors’ bench.

Olivari’s emotional response to a postgame discussion with Curry became a viral sensation that night.

“I’m at a loss for words, man,” Olivari said, visibly moved. “He’s my all-time favorite player. He began by telling me, ‘I’m a big fan of your game.’ And honestly, I’m a huge fan of his too.”

For this season, Olivari joins a select group of players on two-way contracts with the Lakers, including Armel Traeore and Christian Koloko.

The Lakers are set to commence their regular season this Tuesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, while their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, are scheduled to start their season on November 9 against the Salt Lake City Stars.
