The event was made even more memorable with the presence of Kobe’s family—his wife Vanessa and their daughters Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. One of the highlights was Bianka Bryant throwing the ceremonial first pitch to Dodgers’ first baseman Freddie Freeman, creating a touching scene at the ballpark.

This tribute took place on August 8, symbolically reflecting the No. 8 Bryant wore during the earlier years of his career with the Lakers. The Dodgers have made it a tradition to remember Bryant, featuring various homage-themed events in past seasons including last year’s first pitch by Bianka and a giveaway of Dodgers jerseys featuring Bryant’s design. The team previously distributed Bryant-themed jerseys with a black snakeskin design, a nod to his “Black Mamba” moniker, back in 2023.
Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in 2020, which also claimed the lives of seven others. Since then, the Dodgers have committed to annually honoring this beloved figure of basketball and the Los Angeles community with various tributes.
In the game that night, with pitcher Clayton Kershaw leading the way, the Dodgers secured a victory over the Blue Jays with a score of 5-1, aided by a two-run homer from Mookie Betts.
