Malik Beasley’s Shocking Gambling Scandal Ignites Social Media Frenzy!

1. On Sunday, ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed significant news concerning Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley and his involvement in gambling allegations.

I was initially shocked by the news, as Beasley has been a significant player and has earned a substantial amount during his career. One would expect such allegations to be associated with a less experienced player, perhaps one not making as much money.

Beasley has been playing in the NBA since 2016 and has reportedly made $60 million, according to Spotrac.com.

This situation could be more about the thrill rather than financial necessity, but the full details are yet to come to light.

Charania noted that the investigation focuses on activities from the 2023–24 season when Beasley was with the Bucks.

It appears many only read the headlines as online detectives think they’ve found proof of Beasley’s alleged misconduct. Some findings are credible, while others are simply humorous.

2. If you’re like me and don’t have a YouTube TV subscription, NFL Sunday Ticket will be priced at $480 plus tax for the 2025 season. Despite the cost, I’m willing to spend nearly $500 because YouTube’s presentation of the Sunday Ticket is simply too good to pass up, but there must be a limit somewhere.

3. On Monday, Netflix unveiled the trailer for its upcoming eight-episode documentary series about Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, set to premiere on August 19. Here’s my controversial opinion: no documentary series should exceed four episodes.

4. I’ve never seen a manager pack so much into a 10-second outburst. During a game in Milwaukee on Sunday, the Rockies’ interim manager Warren Schaeffer chewed out an umpire, tossing his gum and hat, and gesturing to show where he thought a pitch had landed, all before being ejected in the third inning.

5. This moment stood out as the best of the entire sports weekend.

6. This week’s episode of the podcast features a discussion with The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch about the latest sports media news.

We cover topics like Stephen A. Smith’s ongoing presence during the NBA Finals, the ratings for the Pacers-Thunder series, the effects of off-court storylines on the WNBA, several notable live broadcasting incidents, the competition between Amazon and NBC for NBA coverage next year, and the WWE’s upcoming Netflix series that offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look.

Following Deitsch, Sal Licata from WFAN radio and SNY TV in New York joins me for our weekly “Traina Thoughts” segment. This week, we discuss the current state of New York baseball, the new season of Quarterback on Netflix, and the trailer for the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White. Additionally, I address listener emails.

7. RANDOM VIDEO OF THE DAY: This entire half-hour interview with screenwriter and director Larry Charles is truly excellent, but the first few minutes are the most notable. Charles, who worked on Seinfeld, explains why a Larry David documentary fell apart the day before it was supposed to air on HBO.
