The Minnesota Timberwolves and Julius Randle have reached an agreement on a new, substantial contract extension as of Sunday, ensuring Randle’s continued presence on the team well into the future.
The details of the agreement include a three-year extension worth $100 million, featuring a player option for the 2027-28 season. This news comes from Shams Charania, a well-known NBA insider at ESPN.
Previously, Randle had a player option in his contract valued at $30.935 million for the 2025-26 season. He was expected to become an unrestricted free agent after that season. However, with this new extension, he secures a slight increase in pay, averaging $33 million annually over the new contract period.
At 30 years old, Randle had a strong debut season with the Timberwolves following his acquisition from the New York Knicks in the Karl-Anthony Towns trade. He recorded averages of 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists, while shooting 48.5% from the field. His performance further improved during the playoffs, where he averaged 21.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists over 15 games before the Timberwolves were knocked out.
The 2025-26 season will mark Randle’s twelfth year in the NBA.
