According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the team has agreed to a three-year, $24 million extension with Jaylin Williams. In conjunction with this new agreement, the Thunder will decline Williams’s $2.1 million player option for the upcoming season, opting instead for a new annual salary of $8 million that will commence immediately.
The extension represents a significant financial boost for Williams, who, despite limited playtime during the Thunder’s championship campaign, gained significant attention during the team’s celebrations. Drafted from Arkansas in the second round of the 2022 NBA draft, Williams initially played a starting role in 36 games during his rookie season. However, his participation decreased progressively, moving to a bench role the following season, further reduced by the signing of Isaiah Hartenstein and a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the initial months of the season.

In the 2024-25 season, Williams featured in 47 games, averaging 5.9 points over 16.7 minutes per game. He played in all seven games of the Thunder’s second-round series against the Denver Nuggets but had limited impact on the team’s successful postseason run.
Despite his limited use in extensive minutes, the Thunder clearly value what Williams contributes to the team. The contract extension was also a well-timed gift for the young forward, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on the same day he signed the new deal.
